Guwahati: In one of the biggest drug hauls in Assam, police seized 500 kg of cannabis in Guwahati’s Gorchuk area and arrested four persons with this connection, the official said on Tuesday.
As per sources, a team of Assam police led by Joint Commissioner of Police, Partha Mahanta, intercepted a truck that came from a neighbouring state, at Gorchuk in the Kamrup district and seized 500 kg of Ganja.
The market value of the seized drugs is estimated at around Rs 3 to 3.5 crores, sources added.
The police have also arrested four persons. The arrested persons have been identified as Manish Kumar, Dinabandhu Kumar, Sanjay Kumar, and Nabin Kumar, all the persons are residents of Bihar.
Taking to Twitter, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “ @GuwahatiPol intercepted a truck coming from a neighbouring state and seized 500 kg Ganja at Gorchuk, Guwahati. Also apprehended four accused. Great efforts by @assampolice in combating the drug menace. Keep it up.”
