Guwahati: Guwahati Press club has condemned the arrest and alleged assault of republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami on a 2018 case.
GPC president Major Kumar Nath and General Secretary Sanjoy Ray in a statement said, “Reopening of an old case of abetment to suicide that was closed for want of evidence, and arresting Editor In Chief of Republic TV Network in connection with the said case is very unfortunate. The manner in which Mr Goswami was arrested clearly leaves room for suspicion towards witch-hunting.”
Members of the GPC executive committee who met today at the Club premises while condemning the arrest of Mr Goswami urged the Maharashtra Government and the Mumbai Police to ensure that the senior journalist is treated fairly without a prejudiced mindset.
“We have full faith in the justice delivery system of our country and hope that justice will be done”, the statement read.
Meanwhile, GPC also expresses its concern over the recent developments in Jammu and Kashmir and urges the Ministry of Home Affairs to ensure that no bonafide journalist is harassed in the name of investigation by the National Investigation Agency, which is probing the terror funding case.
