GUWAHATI: Suspected Ulfa (I) Explosive Expert Amrit Ballav Goswami gets bail

GUWAHATI: One of the prime accused in the 2019 Guwahati zoo road grenade blast case Amrit Ballav Goswami, a suspected explosive expert of Ulfa (Independent) faction, was granted bail recently by the Gauhati high court.

He was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) who took over the case from city police in 2019 and was charge-sheeted by the agency earlier. He had moved the high court after the special NIA court rejected his bail petition.

He was charged under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, Arms Act and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). He was accused of conspiring the bomb blast in the city.

Goswami was released by the high court with a direction to cooperate with the investigation.

NIA had filed a charge-sheet in its special court here against eight accused linked to Ulfa (I) in connection with a grenade lobbying case.
