Guwahati: The impact of global warming could be felt in the capital city of Guwahati as the mercury level has gone up drastically even in January when winter was still here. In fact, as per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the city recorded 30 degree Celcius on Monday which was the maximum temperature ever for the month of January here.
According to the IMD, the temperature rose by 5.4 degrees Celsius from normal to touch 30 degrees Celsius in Guwahati on Monday while the minimum temperature rose by 3.6 degrees Celsius from normal to touch 15 degrees Celsius.
The previous highest temperature in Guwahati in January was 29.8 degrees Celcius and was recorded on January 27, 2019.
The IMD has also predicted that the maximum temperature in the city may rise up to 32 degrees Celsius by the end of the week.
