GUWAHATI: The capital city of Guwahati got its state of the art foot over bridges on GS road on Monday. Assam’s finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated two of the over bridges near Mizoram House in Christianbasti and at Walford, Ganeshguri.
Equipped with escalators, lifts these foot over bridges were made with technology from Switzerland. Special features included automated elevator and ramp approach for divyanga person, two-way escalator, two staircases, etc.
CCTV surveillance systems were also installed. Both the foot over bridges was completed at a cost of around Rs 10 Cr each.
However, many in the city believed that the foot overbridges will create bottlenecks on the busy city roads leading to more traffic congestions. “The feet over bridges were built by encroaching the already congested GS road. Two bottlenecks created now. Almost 5-6 feet on either side of GS has been encroached,” said Pranjit, a city resident.
