Guwahati: Upto Rs 1k fine if found not wearing masks in public
Guwahati: Amid the state witnessing a sharp rise in the COVID-19 cases, the Kamrup (M) district administration decided to make it compulsory for people to wear masks while out in public places.
On Friday, Kamrup (M) DC Biswajit Pegu informed that in a meeting on Friday it was decided to make the wearing of masks compulsory in the district.
Reportedly, the authorities may impose a penalty of Rs 500 for the first offense and Rs 1,000 for the second and subsequent offenses if people do not wear masks in public.
After testing around 500 passengers on Sunday, 19 persons have been detected with COVID-19 at Guwahati Railway Station.
Meanwhile, the state recorded 405 new cases and two deaths on Saturday taking the COVID19 tally to 2,15,907.
