Guwahati will cheer for its own team this year in the third Premier Badminton League.

Guwahati, August 17: “Guwahati Eastern Warriors” has been added as a new team and is all set to be a part of the third Premier Badminton League (PBL), the world’s richest Badminton League to be held in December.

The annual Premier Badminton League will have two new teams in this year’s edition- Guwahati Eastern Warriors and Ahmedabad Smash Masters. The event is organized by Badminton Association of India (BAI) in association with Sportzlive and is scheduled to be held from December 22 to January 14, next year.

Speaking to mediapersons, BAI President Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma thanked the new owners and welcomed them into the BAI family. He also congratulated SportzLive and said he believed that together they can take badminton to unprecedented heights.

The 11-point format will make way for 15 point format and there will only be a single match per day to drive more footfalls at the stadium and viewership on TV in the third edition of the cash rich PBL.

The league offers a prize purse of Rs 6 Crore. The third edition will be an eight team competition with Delhi Acers (Delhi), Awadhe Warriors (Lucknow), Mumbai Rockets (Mumbai), Hyderabad Hunters (Hyderabad), Bengaluru Blasters (Bengaluru), Chennai Smashers (Chennai) and the new teams Ahmedabad Smash Masters and Guwahati Eastern Warriors vying for the top honours.

Official broadcasting of the event will be done by Star Sports Networks.
