Guwahati: Going full throttle to keep the streets clean and making the most of the technology, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has come up with a one-of-its-kind plan.

The civic body has appealed the city folks to WhatsApp photograph of people throwing waste openly on the roads and not in the designated dustbin and in return, the sender will win Rs 500 as prize money.

The GMC has also issued photo numbers – 88110 07000, 73990 03001, 73990 03002, 73990 03003 and 73990 03004 – where you can contact the officials. You can also mail the photograph at [email protected].

It may be mentioned that the GMC has launched flying squads for cleaning garbage and drains in different parts of the city.  A total of six flying squads has been formed to clean the garbage and each squad will have six members.

The squads armed with tools and vehicles will visit designated areas and clean the litters from Monday to Saturday.  On Sunday, the squads will try to resolve the backlogged problems.

The squad will penalise the city folks who are found urinating, spitting on the road, footpath, road divider or any other public places and it will be applicable from August 2019 onwards.
