Amid the tension surrounding the newly enacted law– Citizenship Amendment Act(CAA), violent protests erupted across the country including Assam. Although the situation is gradually returning to normalcy in the violence-hit areas, the people are stern not to accept the law.
While the opposition parties, student groups, ethnic communities, artists, musicians have their innovative ways of sharing their views on CAA, a couple from Assam’s Hajo district showed up with anti-CAA placards on their engagement day in solidarity with the protesters.
The placards read ‘No CA(A)’ as the duo– Nahar Iftikar Anjum, Rekib Ahmed posed for the shutterbugs after exchanging the rings at the social event.
Violent protests broke out in several parts of the country after the citizenship law was passed in parliament on December 11th, 2019. Several people have died in Assam, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh in violence over the week. Four people were killed in police firing in Assam, while an oil tanker driver was charred to death when his vehicle was set on fire in Orang.
A total of 241 criminal cases have been registered in Assam following the violent protests against the act and 385 persons arrested so far in relation to these cases.
