Guwahati: A detainee of the Hatigaon Police Station was found to be COVID-19 positive on Sunday.
Sources said that the person was arrested on allegations of him stealing gas cylinders and after being arrested, his samples were sent for testing. On Sunday, it came to light the accused person was tested positive of the virus.
Immediately after this report, twelve Police personnel of the Hatigaon Police Station were quarantined as precautions. The detainee was found COVID-19 positive on June 8.
The entire police station was sanitized and the police personnel were quarantined at the Hotel Lily, Guwahati.
Earlier a sub-inspector of the Panbazar Police in Guwahati was tested positive of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) on Saturday.
Speaking to TIME8, Panbazaar ACP, Laba Kumar Deka said that the police official tested positive for the virus on Saturday. “He was in quarantine at the Vishwaratna Hotel for the past four days after he claimed that he was not feeling well. The officer had shown some signs of the COVID-19 and as precaution we immediately sent him to quarantine”, he added.
The ACP further added that after his results came, all precautions were maintain and the officer was admitted at the MMCH.
Deka added that along with this, the entire police station and the vehicles are being sanitized and further persons who recently came in direct contact with the infected officer are being traced.
All precautionary methods are being maintained to contain the spread of the virus.
The police officer was deployed in regular duty and was also active in duties related to containment zones. Guwahati at present has 44 active containment zones.
It may be mentioned that on Friday three doctors were detected positive for the virus at the GMCH.
