Email account of Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been hacked and mails are being sent in his name seeking financial help. On his twitter account Sarma confirmed hacking of his email id and cautioned people to not entertain such emails. A case has also been registered in this matter with cyber crime department.
“My email id has been hacked by some unscrupulous elements and mails sent seeking financial help. Avoid any such mail. Case being registered”, Sarma tweeted.
He also attached screenshots of two emails which were sent to a person named Ashok Bajaj from his email id firstname.lastname@example.org. In the mails which were sent yesterday, Bajaj was asked to make a wire transfer of Rs 2 lakh to the account of a vendor for purchases as well as programme service. It also said that the minister was in a meeting and could only communicate through mail. The mail also shares the beneficiary account details which is in name of one Zeeta Ralte from Pune.
It appears that after receiving the mail Ashok Bajaj immediately brought the matter to notice of the minister and forwarded the mail to him. Seeing the sensitivity of the matter, Sarma issued a late night statement on his twitter account.
