    Heavy rains wreak havoc in Sikkim; highways blocked in several districts

    GUWAHATI: Though the summer, the hottest of the four temperate seasons is bidding farewell to the current year, the Northeast state of Sikkim is yet to escape from rain-induced disaster.   

    Once again on Sunday, the rain has caused huge damages in the hill state of Sikkim. Due to incessant rains and its resultant flood over the last 12 hours, Sikkim has been receiving disastrous land sliding and accordingly highways are blocked in several parts of the state.

    Mainly, NH 10 highway has been blocked at 32 no and 29 miles. Moreover, other roads that connect Sirwani and Tarku are also blocked. Similarly, Sirwani to Dikchu (Patuk Singbel) road is also blocked due to mud sliding and Singtam to Yangang road is also closed as the road condition has worsened heavily. 

    North Sikkim road near Mangan is also blocked and Lingmoo to Law village road is also blocked.

    In west Sikkim Pelling to Dentam, Pelling to Yuksam and  Legshep to Tashiding is also blocked due to continuous land sliding. In South Sikkim also Naya bazaar to Leghship road is also not operational and Rey to Mindu road via Sajong in the east district is also blocked.
