Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party, Assam Pradesh termed it as politically motivated and a conspiracy hatched by certain anti-social elements of downloading a video of a protest programme aired by television channels through social media.

State BJP General Secretary Pulok Gohain made a grave allegation during a Press Meet held at party headquarters in Hengrabari on Saturday that the Congress was behind the entire sordid incident. Demanding a high-level inquiry into the deep-rooted conspiracy to malign the image of the BJP, Assam Pradesh in the eyes of the public, the party submitted an FIR at the Dispur Police Station.

In the FIR, the party clearly stated thus: “On July 28, the party’s SC Morcha, Mohila Morcha and Tea Tribe Morcha organised a protest programme to register its protest against the derogatory comment made by Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury against President of India, Draupadi Murmu. The video footage of the protest programme was downloaded from TV channels by some anti-social elements and was distorted, morphed and put up on the social media platform. This was an attempt to hurt the sentiments of a particular community and to create unrest in the society as well as to sully the image of the BJP, Assam Pradesh. Such an act committed by the anti-social elements is a gross violation of the Information Technology Act. Through this FIR, we request you to identify the miscreants at the earliest and to book them under the relevant laws of the land.”

On the other hand, around 300 women of the Tai Ahom Mahila Parishad gathered to protest against the disrespectful comments passed against their community during a rally held by Angoorlata Deka on July 28.

Deka, who is the chief of Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) women’s wing, had led a protest on the above-mentioned date during which chants of ‘Ahom Jaati Murdabad’ were allegedly raised.

Condemning the slogans, the Kamrup metro district Tai Ahom Mahila Parishad called it derogatory and disrespectful towards their community.

The gathered women strongly condemned the entire act and demanded that the BJP Mahila Morcha chief apologises to the people of the community.

They also warned of appropriate repercussions if the incident is repeated in the future.
