Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday evening visited the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) for the very first time after taking the oath.
Nearly, half an hour-long meeting on the present situation of COVID was held with the newly appointed Chief Minister in presence of the principal secretary of health, Guwahati Police Commissioner, DC Kamrup, and the officials’ Health Department of Assam.
Speaking to the media, Principal Secretary, Health, Dr. Achyut Baishya said, “A review meeting will be held on Tuesday with the Chief Minister to see if the rate of COVID positive patients has decreased or increased as a result of the announcement of Containment Zones in 3 wards of Guwahati.”
Dr. Baishya also informed that the health department will try to reduce the rate of infection within the next 15 days as strict measures to be deployed.
“If a person over 50 years and above is infected with COVID virus, he or she will be compulsorily taken to Covid Centers,” said Dr. Baishya.
He further added, “If any person above the age of 50 shows symptoms of COVID 19, he or she should immediately visit the hospital.
Meanwhile, taking to Twitter, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “I visited GMCH and along with Pr Secy Health, Guwahati Police Commissioner, DC Kamrup and other health officials, discussed strict measures that need to be deployed over next 15 days to contain #COVID19. In view of escalating cases, we need tough measures.”
