Tinsukia, September 15: Following clash over a Facebook post on Friday, the Hindu bodies have called for a 24-hour Tinsukia bandh starting from 5 am on Saturday.

The Hindu Yuba Chatra Parishad, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Tinsukia District, Antarashtriya Hindu Parishad, Assam, Rashtriya Bajrang Dal, Assam, All Assam Adivasi Chatra Sanstha, Doomdooma and Assam Thakur Sangh has called for the shutdown.

The agitating bodies burnt tyres on the streets and chanted slogans like Vande Mataram and Aziz Khan hai hai. As per reports, the protesters also pelted stones at the buses and trucks damaging the glasses.

Aziz has been accused of posting “derogatory comments”  on the Facebook which have “hurt the sentiments of the Hindus”.

An FIR was also lodged by the Hindu Yuba Chatra Parishad against Aziz.

The roads wore a deserted look and normal life came to a halt. Some schools had to postpone exams as well, as per reports.

“Aziz Khan had posted a comment against our Hindu God Ram. Even after filing an FIR, the police has not been able to arrest him. To protest against his Facebook post, we took to the streets yesterday but the police lathi-charged on us,” said a protester.
