A fringe right-wing group Hindu Raksha Dal has purportedly taken responsibility for the attack on students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in a video posted on social media.

The video, which was posted on social media on January 6th, 2020 and has now gone viral. The video shows a man identifying himself as Pinki Chaudhary. In the video, the man says that those who resort to “anti-national activities” will be treated in the same way that JNU students and faculty were.

Violence broke out at JNU on January 5th, 2020 after masked men armed with sticks, iron rods and stones attacked students and teachers and vandalised property on the campus. The JNUSU and the ABVP blamed each other for the violence that continued for over two hours.

Delhi Police has registered an FIR against (JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh and 19 others for attacking security guards and vandalising the server room on January 4th, 2020.

The JNUSU blamed Vice-Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar for allowing the attack on students and teachers on the campus and also called for his resignation. The JNUSU has called Kumar a “mobster who perpetuates violence in the university”.
