Guwahati: Stirring a debate, the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal on Friday asked Hindu men and women to get married at an early age to have children like Muslims.

Ajmal said that instead of asking Muslims to go for family planning, Hindus should adopt the ‘Muslim formula’ and Hindu men should start getting married at the age of 22-23 and women at 18 years of age so that they can have more babies.

He also mocked the Hindu community people by saying that Hindus don’t get married till 40 as they indulge in illicit relations before marriage.

“Muslim men marry at the age of 20-22, and Muslim women marry at 18 – the age permitted by law. On the other hand, (Hindus) keep one, two, or three illegal wives before marriage. They don’t give birth to children, enjoy themselves and save money,” the AIUDF chief said.

Reacting to state’s chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s previous remark on ‘love jihad’ in connection with the gruesome murder of Shraddha Walker in Delhi, Ajmal said that the chief minister should not hate love jihad but also practice it himself.
