Guwahati, May 23, 2019
Buoyed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s surge towards a massive victory, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on May 23rd, 2019 termed it a historic day for India. The NDA is ahead in 342 of the 542 seats, while the BJP lead has crossed 300.
“A historic day for India. It’s a vote for nationalism and faster development. It’s a vote for #NewIndia. Congratulations to the people of India for choosing a strong & honest Govt led by PM Shri @narendramodi ji. @BJP4India #VijayiBharat,” tweeted Sonowal, minutes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted ‘India wins yet again‘.
Sonowal also congratulated the BJP karyakartas in Assam “for their unwavering love & support towards” Modi.

It may be mentioned that it was the first time in more than three decades that a single party won the majority on its own.
The party’s parliamentary board is expected to meet on May 23rd, 2019 evening at the party headquarters where Modi is likely to make a speech addressing the party workers.
