Guwahati, November 3: While speaking exclusively to Time8, Kausar J. Hilaly, ACS, Managing Director of Assam Tourism Development Corporation Limited said that “Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) has proposed Expression of Interest (EOI) to initiate the ‘hop-on-hop-off’ coach service in Guwahati. Popularly known as HoHo service, the incorporated bus facility is on a public-private partnership (PPP) mode and will facilitate tourists the flexibility of sightseeing in the Gateway to the Northeast. The bus services will take place throughout the year”.
He also added that, “The department has already invited tenders from vendors outside the state and the final list will hopefully be ready by November. The whole process will take some time to fully take shape and the bus services are likely to start from January next year”.
The HoHo coach service is expected to have a convoy of deluxe buses arriving at selected locations at one-hour intervals. The tourists can get off at a place of their preference and again board any of the buses to reach another destination of their tour with the same pass after booking a trip. The trips will be made cost effective and will have tourist-friendly features as GPS-enabled commentary, trained guide onboard, CCTV, revealed sources from ATDC.
Even though Guwahati have a number of tourist destinations like temples, beautiful riverfront, historical monuments and more, the place still lacks in having an organized city tour like many other cities of the country.
The services will be a replica of the hop-on-hop-off sightseeing services in Delhi also popular as ‘Delhi Darshan’, which gives sightseers the opportunity to explore historic monuments, museums, markets, etc.
The services will be cost-effective and is expected to attract all sections because of a hassle-free trip to the city and is suitable for both individual as well as group tours.
