Mother of victim doctor Dr. Seuj Kumar Senapati speaks to TIME8

Guwahati: The mother of the victim doctor Dr. Seuj Kumar Senapati, who was brutally attacked by miscreants at the Udali Covid Care Centre in Assam’s Hojai district has refused to accept the monetary support of Rs 1 lakh extended by All India Democratic United Front (AIUDF) chief Maulana Badruddin Ajmal following the barbaric incident.

Ajmal has been vehemently condemning the incident since Wednesday and had also released a video urging the Assam government to make the arrangement for a fast trial so that the culprits get immediate and exemplary punishments.

However, speaking to TIME8 on Thursday, the mother of the victim doctor said, “We are grateful for AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal’s generosity, but we are not accepting this money. If he wants to help us then help my son to get justice, he must make sure all the perpetrators must get strictest punished.”

Notably, Dr. Seuj Kumar Senapati is undergoing treatment at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) in Guwahati.

The mother of Dr. Seuj Kumar Senapati also praised Assam Government and Health minister Keshab Mahanta for their constant support and care.

It may be mentioned that Dr. Seuj Kumar Senapati suffered serious injuries after he was thrashed by a group of people at the Udali Covid Care Centre (CCC) in Hojai district on Tuesday after one of their ‘relative’ died of Covid 19.

The group of people also damaged the CCC. They alleged negligence by Senapati and the medical team at the CCC for the death of one Giyasuddin.

A video of the incident had gone viral in which a group of around 20 people including women were seen manhandling Senapati and beating him with sticks and other items. They also tore his dress.

Later, police arrested at least 24 persons including main perpetrators & conspirators who were reported to be directly involved in the barbaric incident.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also assured ‘speedy justice’ to the victim doctor.

Earlier, taking to his official Twitter handle, CM Sarma said, “24 culprits involved in this barbaric attack have been arrested and the charge sheet will be filed at the earliest. I am personally monitoring this investigation and I promise that justice will be served.”
