‘Hold direct talk with Zelensky’, PM Modi to Prez Putin over call
Guwahati: As the Russia-Ukraine war continues to escalate, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken on the phone to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Reportedly, the call between both the leaders lasted for about 50 minutes. During the call, PM Modi urged the Russian President to hold direct talks with Ukrainian President Zelensky in addition to the ongoing negotiations between their teams.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi spoke to Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zekensky and appreciated that both sides have appointed delegations to hold talks in attempt to stop hostilities following Russia’s declaration in late February that it will launch a so called ‘military operation’ in Ukraine.
The Prime Minister also thanked President Zelenskyy for the help extended by the Ukrainian Government in the evacuation of Indian nationals from Ukraine
The delegations are currently meeting for the third round of talks in Belarus. Sputnik’s Belarus arm said that Russian officials are en route for the discussions.
So far, India has abstained from resolutions at the United Nations which were brought up to criticise Russia for its military aggression on Ukraine.
PM Modi has been holding high-level meetings to review the situation and rescue operations for Indian nationals stranded in the region.
