West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee – one of the fierce critics of the BJP – wrote a poem condemning the communal clashes in Delhi and sought answers for the incidents of vandalism and arson.
She shared the poem titled ‘Hell’ on her Facebook account and expressed concern over “a peaceful country being turned violent”. Banerjee also talked about “holi of blood before the holi of colour”, referring to the bloodshed in violence-hit northeast Delhi.
“So much bloodshed, so many deaths, anger burning like fire, a holi of blood before the holi of colours! Humanity a worst sufferer!,” she writes.
“Search for an address getting lost, storm raging the country at gunpoint, a peaceful country, turned violent-Is it the end of democracy?” she says.
She adds,” Who will give the answers? Will there be a solution! You and me are deaf and dumb, the sacred land turns into a hell.”
Banerjee appealed to the people of Delhi to maintain peace. At least 34 have died and over 200 have been injured after four straight days of clashes over the Citizenship Amendment Act.
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval visited violence-affected areas of the North East Delhi district to review the law and order situation and offer personal guarantees that the government would restore peace.
