Holi celebrations turned tragic on March 10th, 2020 after a girl drowned in Kopili river at Kampur in Nagaon district of Assam.
The incident came to light after the parents realised that their daughter Janmoni Das was missing from the celebrations.
The locals said that Janmoni went to take a bath in the river after playing Holi with her friends. She was a student of Class 8 at Kamrup Girls’ High School.
“She went to the river for bathing, however, she slipped and drowned into the water. This is an extremely unfortunate incident, specially on an occasion like Holi,” said a local woman.
The local residents fished out the body of the girl. A pall of gloom has descended over the entire area.
