    Hookah Bars in Guwahati Ordered to Close Down

    It further added that the GMC would not entertain further renewal or issuance of trade license for Hookah Bar within the city area

    GUWAHATI: All hookah bars running in the capital city of Guwahati were asked to shut down immediately within a week. The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) on Friday asked all the hookah bar operating in the city to close down with immediate effect.

    An order issued by the GMC commissioner said, “The government of Assam, through the Guwahati Development Department (GDD), has notified for the closure of all the trades in respect of Hookah Bar operating within the city of Guwahati.”

    It further added that the GMC would not entertain further renewal or issuance of trade license for Hookah Bar within the city area.

    However, the order did not mention the reason behind the closure notice. The city has multiple numbers of hookah bars.
