Guwahati: Leader of the Opposition in Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia questioned Assam Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna whether the state’s Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal would be held responsible for breaking Covid 19 protocols while inaugurating a police station in Nalbari earlier.
Sonowal on Sunday inaugurated the newly constructed building of Nalbari Police Station under MOITRI Scheme at Nalbari. Large numbers of people were seen attending the program and the CM himself was allegedly seen not maintaining the key Covid 19 protocol of ‘social distancing’.
Saikia in a letter to Krishna asked, “As per your latest order, there is a complete lockdown in the state on Saturdays and Sundays and assembly of more than three persons are banned. Then how could the state’s chief minister violate the norms? If a responsible citizen like the CM himself doesn’t act as per the order then who else will?”
He letter added, “Therefore, being the head of the Task Force, I would like you to order Assam Police to take necessary action.”
Industry and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, MP Mangaldoi Dilip Saikia, MLA Nalbari Ashok Sarma, MLA Barkhetri Narayan Deka, Chairman Assam Tourism Development Corporation Jayanta Malla Baruah, DGP Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta, Managing Director of Assam Police Housing Corporation Arabinda Kalita, DC Nalbari Purabi Konwar, SP Nalbari Amanjeet Kaur, social worker Umesh Chandra Chakraborty and host of others were also present on the occasion.
