Huge quantity of drugs to be destroyed across multiple locations in Assam

Guwahati: Assam police on Saturday took an initiative to destroy contrabands, which were seized by state police in different cases.

According to reports, around 4.3 kg of banned drugs, 4.5 kg ganja and 8405 intoxicating capsules will be destroyed by the Dibrugarh police.

The drug destruction process will be held at an undisclosed location of Oil India Limited in Duliajan.

The programme will be attended by the superintendent of police of Dibrugarh district as well as several top police officials and other officials from various departments.  

In Assam’s Karimganj, drugs worth Rs 68 crore were burnt on Saturday morning.

Similarly, in Guwahati, contrabands worth Rs 4.47 crore have been destroyed as a part of the initiative by the state police.

It is to be noted that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will address the National Conference on ‘Drug Trafficking and National Security in Chandigarh on Saturday.

This is the first such national conference where the Union Home Minister, Chief Ministers of different States and the different Drugs Enforcement Agencies will all be on one platform.

This Conference shows the unwavering resolve of the Modi government to free the country from the menace of drugs.

During the Conference, more than 30,000 kg of drugs will be burnt and disposed off by NCB teams in Delhi, Chennai, Guwahati and Kolkata in front of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

On the clarion call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to celebrate Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, NCB under the leadership of the Union Home Minister Amit Shah took a pledge to destroy 75,000 kilograms of drugs on 75 years of Independence.

NCB started the drug disposal campaign from June 01, 2022, so far, about 51,217.8402 kgs of drugs have been disposed by NCB teams in 11 different states till July 29.
