Guwahati: Countering the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) direction to produce a copy of the No Objection Certificate and approved plan of his constructed building at Niribili Path, Ghoramara Chariali, Guwahati, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Bora on Thursday stated that it’s awful that an authority like Guwahati Municipal Corporation didn’t do their homework before issuing a letter in his name.

In a reply to the Associate planner of the GMC, Bora said that the house he resides in along with his family is in the name of his wife and he is not the owner either of the land or the building.

“Authorities in the GMC in their jest to issue show-cause notice, probably at the behest of political masters did not even consider it appropriate to verify their own records. In normal circumstances, when such a complaint is lodged it is incumbent upon the GMC authority to verify their own record but in the present case, the authority did not do so. This itself creates doubt that such notice is accentuated by malice,” said Bora in his letter.

The state Congress chief also urged the GMC to verify the record and seek the relevant documents from the owner of the land and building i.e Bora’s wife by sending proper notice in the name of his wife as per law.

Notably, the notice was issued based on a complaint filed by one Bhaskarjyoti Kumar and Hiren Bhatta, Bhetapara Ghoramara regarding the ‘unauthorized’ construction of his building.

The GMC authority had directed the state Congress chief to submit his reply within the next three days.
