All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA Aminul Islam accused the incumbent BJP of conspiring against him and ‘cleared the air’ that he never targetted the Ahom community.
The Dhing MLA who visited the Guwahati office of the All Tai Ahom Student’s Union(ATASU) yesterday also sat with the student leaders to sort out the on-going controversy over his remark. The MLA offered flowers and prayers to photograph of Chaolung Sukaphaa, Ahom king and founder of the Ahom kingdom.
“I have been receiving calls from the community leaders ever since the video has been circulated by a group with vested interest. I would like to clear the air of confusion that I never said Ahoms are not an indigenous community of Assam, it was BJP’s Rajen Gohain who said Ahoms are Bangladeshis” he said while addressing the media.
“I spoke at length on a topic where a sentence was cropped and made into a controversy. I am deeply saddened that the Ahom community was hurt by the statement. I request to all the Assamese people to listen to my entire speech” he added.
The Dhing legislator fired guns at the BJP and said that the party is conspiring against him. “In order to overshadow the anti-CAA protest in Assam, the BJP has made me a scapegoat. We have accepted Assamese as the mother tongue and we respect the language. The BJP should stop their dirty politics”.
The MLA added that they will continue to protest against Citizenship Act and will not accept a single foreigner in the land.
Earlier Islam was quoted as saying that “Ahoms entered India from a foreign land” which led to a massive protest. Protesters burn effigies of Islam and demanded an apology.
