Guwahati: All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief and Lok Sabha MP Badruddin Ajmal on Thursday assured people that his party will move court against the government action against madrassas.

During a visit to Markazul Ma-Arif Qari Aiyana Madrassa in Assam’s Bongaigaon district which was demolished by the administration on Wednesday, the Dhubri MP said, “We can’t accept the Assam government’s bulldozer drive against the Madrasas in the state. It has to be stopped. If necessary we will move the High Court or maybe Supreme Court against it.”

In the past one month, at least three Madrassas were demolished by the Assam government, said the Dhubri parliamentarian.

The AIUDF chief also urged the locals not to take the law into their hands and requested them to maintain peace and tranquillity in the area.

MP Ajmal also informed that he will be meeting the chief minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday evening.

Earlier, authorities in Assam on Wednesday demolished a madrassa in the Bongaigaon district after allegations that its premises were being used for terror activities.

Meanwhile, CM Sarma while speaking to the media in this regard said, “If we get any specific inputs on any madrassa being used for expanding Jihadi activity or anti-India activities then we are going to take the strongest possible action in each and every case. The government of Assam doesn’t have any intention to go on demolishing Madrassas. Our only intention is to see that the Madrassas are not used by any Jihadi elements.”

It may be mentioned that more than 40 people suspected of involvement in “jihadi” activities, including Bangladeshis, have been arrested in the state since March this year.
