“I’ll have a landslide victory”: Naba Sarania files nomination
GUWAHATI: Kokrajhar MP Naba Sarania claimed that he would have a landslide victory in the Barama constituency under the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC). Sarania on Monday submitted his nomination from the seat as an independent candidate.
“I don’t need a party to work for people. I am sure I will win with a record margin of over one lakh votes. The MLAs so far from the seat could not deliver their duties and I am here to change that,” Sarania said.
Interestingly, United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), BJP and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) which were all eying to contest in the seat were yet to declare their candidate for Barama.
UPPL, BJP and Gana Suraksha Party led by Sarania in an alliance formed the newly elected council in the BTC.
Sarania’s submitting of the nomination came at a time when there were discussions ongoing between UPPL and BJP regarding contesting from Barama. Both the parties wanted to contest from the seat.
“Since UPPL, GSP and BJP are in alliance in BTC, minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also assured to help me in the election. Everyone will come on board once I win from here,” Sarania added.
Barma constituency was won by Hagrama Mohilary led Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) in 2016. Though BPF fought the 2016 polls in support of BJP, this time BPF has joined hands with the Congress-led grand alliance.
BPF was expected to declare its candidate from Barama seat by Monday evening.
