Ahead of the 17th Lok Sabha election, Lakhimpur police on March 14th, 2019 arrested three people and seized illegal arms from Bandardewa along the Assam Arunachal Pradesh border.
Acting on a tip-off, the police recovered two .303 bore pistols and seven rounds live cartridges from a household. In this connection, police arrested Prabin Mili of Majuli, Saurav Doley of Panigaon and Anthony Doke of Naharlagun.
Police suspected a possible plan to create unrest in the area ahead of the ensuing general election. A case has been registered in this regard. Further investigation is on, police informed.
The Assam police have beefed up security across the state to prevent any possible attempts by miscreants to create unrest during the election time. On the other hand, the investigation wing of the Incomes Tax Department, North East Region has deployed 157 official who will spread over Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura to monitor election expenditure and flow of black money across 112 districts during the Lok Sabha election time.
