Incessant rainfall causes water-logging in Guwahati city, citizens aghast!
Guwahati: Incessant rainfall since the wee hours brings back the haunting memories of the ‘monster jam’ in Guwahati city.
On Wednesday, the heavy downpour has resulted in flash floods in Guwahati city’s Dispur and Hatigaon areas, thus, leading to massive traffic jams since the morning hours.

Flash floods and Guwahati city has a deep connection for ages. The city is affected by the flash flood and heavy rainfall, especially during the summer season.
As per India Meteorological Department (IMD), a cyclonic circulation lying over west Assam and neighbourhood states between 1.5 and 2.1 km above the mean sea level. The influence of strong lower level southwesterlies from the Bay of Bengal will result in fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with thunderstorms and heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places of Northeast from March 30 to April 1 with maximum activity during March 30-31.
Speaking to TIME8, IMD scientist, Sanjay Shaw said, “There are maximum chances of localized flooding of roads, water logging in low lying areas due to heavy downpour during these two days. Occasional reduction in visibility due to heavy rainfall/snowfall, disruption of traffic due to waterlogging in roads leading to increased travel time, minor damage to kutcha roads, possibilities of damage to vulnerable structures and landslides might cause hindrance to common people.”
Action Suggested by IMD
Check for traffic congestion on your route before starting your journey.
Follow any traffic advisories that are issued in this regard.
Avoid going to areas that often face water logging problems.
