Guwahati: The much-awaited comeback of Indian bowling star Jasprit Bumrah in the first one-day international between India and Srilanka to be played on January 10 at Assam Cricket Association (ACA) stadium at Barsapara here would not be happening.
Top sources in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said that the board may not rush him into action so soon. He was not among the men in blue players who reached Guwahati, the venue for the first ODI.
The BCCI had earlier said that Bumrah (29) has been added to the ODI on the recommendation of the all-India selection committee.
The ace bowler has been out of cricketing action since September 2022 and was also ruled out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup due to a back injury.
The Indian team, including skipper Rohit Sharma, vice-captain KL Rahul, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer, who were not part of the T20I series, have already reached Guwahati.
Earlier, the Assam government announced a half-day holiday in the Kamrup Metropolitan district on Tuesday in view of the India-Sri Lanka ODI match in Guwahati.
All state government offices and educational institutions in the district will be closed at 1 pm, said an official notification issued on Sunday.
India’s updated squad for Sri Lanka ODIs: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Hardik Pandya (VC), Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh.
