Internet suspended for 48 hours in Tripura

Agartala, January 9: The internet services have been suspended for two days to check spreading of rumours after six tribal youths were injured in police firing during clashes at protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in Tripura Tuesday night

The members of the North East Students’ Organization clashed with the police at Khumulwng of Agartala. The police had to lathi charge and blank fire to disperse the protesters.

The controversial Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday after voting.

According to police, riots and arson were reported in Jirania and photographs of the incidents were being uploaded on social media.
