Kokrajhar, January 9: NC Debbarma, Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) minister in Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb’s cabinet on Wednesday strongly opposed the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
The IPFT is a tribal-based party in Tripura and formed its alliance with the BJP-led government in the state.
Debbarma visited Kumarikata in Baksa district on Wednesday.
“The Citizenship Bill will only have negative impacts in all the Northeastern states. At least six persons sustained serious injuries yesterday in bullet firings by security forces while protesting against the Bill in Agartala,” said Debbarma while speaking exclusively to TIME8.
The minister attended the ongoing 51st annual conference of the ABSU.
He further urged the NDA government to re-think on the Bill.
“The IPFT has and will continue to protest against the Bill,” added Debbarma.
