Hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated party workers for stellar performance in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, president of the Congress party, congratulated Modi for his spectacular re-election and asked him to “take care of the interests of the country”.

The Congress leader also conceded defeat in Amethi, a stronghold of the Congress for nearly four decades. He further asked the BJP leader Smriti Irani to “nurture with love” the constituency.

Emphasizing that the Congress vs BJP is a contest of principles and ideologies, he told reporters, “Janata maalik hai. I respect people’s decision. The party workers must fear not as we will win eventually.”

He added, “Today is the day to wish Modi all the best, hopes he looks after the interest of the nation. My party’s fight against the BJP was ideological and it will continue.”

Rahul reportedly offered to resign as Congress chief after a humiliating Lok Sabha loss. However, Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala denied the resignation reports of the Congress president.
