Jaintia women rescued from Human Traffickers

Shillong, September 25: A 24-year-old Jaintia woman, identified as Lamidaka Rymbai  was rescued from traffickers by Shillong Police.

She was rescued from Siliguri after she went missing from Guwahati this year.

Vivek Syiem, Superintendent of Police, Shillong reportedly said that the woman went missing on February 2 under strange conditions.The mother of the women had registered an FIR at Dispur Police Station and at Lumdiengjri police station in Guwahati and Shillong.

The SP added that one, identified as Nur Muhammad of Barpeta in Assam was apprehended in association with the incident. Nur revealed during police interrogartion that the girl was sold to human traffickers.

After a lot of investigation, the Missing Desk East Khasi Hills found that she was trafficked to Siliguri. Later, Missing Desk East Khasi Hills and Assam police reached Khalpara in Siliguri from where she was rescued. The girl was found locked in a confined room, said the officer.

The offenders are now under police custody.
