Hundreds of anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protesters, including the residents of Jamia Nagar and students of Jamia Millia Islamia, were lathi-charged on February 10th, 2020 after they were stopped from marching towards the Parliament.
The protesters were led by the Jamia Coordination Committee. The protesters were marching towards the Parliament to protest against the CAA and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
The Delhi Police said the protesters did not have permission to march towards parliament and said that they had initially requested them to stop their march. The protesters began their march from Jamia’s gate 7.

The security forces deployed at the spot tried to prevent the protesters from moving towards the Parliament by putting up barricades along the way. However, the protesters remained adamant on continuing the march to the Parliament, Delhi Police said.
Several women are also part of the protest. Several media reported, after an hour-long standoff between security forces and anti-CAA protesters, the police resorted to lathicharge near Holy Family hospital, near the Jamia Millia Islamia University.

In retaliation, the students and other anti-CAA protesters railed against the police and jumped barricades. But they met with stiff resistance from the police triggering a scuffle.
The anti-CAA protesters also chanted ‘Kagaz nahin dikhayenge (we won’t show any documents)’ slogans as they started the march from the university.
The injured protesters were reportedly taken to Ansari Health Centre, Holy Family Hospital and Al Shifa hospital. Meanwhile, some of the protesters have been detained by the police.
