Guwahati: In view of the ban on inter-district travel imposed by the state government of Assam to restrict the spread of COVID-19, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has decided to continue with the cancellation of the Guwahati – Jorhat Town – Guwahati Jan Shatabdi Express till August 2.

Inter-district travel has been banned in Assam from Wednesday onwards. The State government on Saturday said that it has decided to stop all inter-district movements to arrest the chain of the COVID 19 pandemic.

The decision came after the Union health ministry has projected that if the state continued to maintain the rising trend then there would be around 64349 cases in the state by August 15.

It also projected that in Guwahati alone, there would be some 32,933 cases by mid-August. The Centre has warned Assam government and instructed to do the needful to check the growth.

Chief Secretary Assam, Kumar Sanjay Krishna had said, “All inter-district movement of individuals will be stopped from Wednesday till further notice. Those who want to reach somewhere can travel until Tuesday.” Only movements of essential services were allowed.

It may be mentioned here that services of the Jan Shatabdi Express were earlier cancelled since June  29  in view of the imposition of complete lock-down in Kamrup Metropolitan district, said Subhanan Chanda, Chief Public Relations Officer NFR.
