Japanese Encephalitis Claims 110 So Far In Assam

Guwahati, July 22, 2019

With the death of three more patients on July 22nd, 2019, the death toll of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) in Assam touched 110, a National Health Mission (NHM) bulletin said. The registered positive JE cases across the state also increased to 477 on July 22nd, 2019.

As per the daily NHM bulletin, one of the three JE deaths was reported from Goalpara, one from Dhubri and another one from Barpeta. Three of them were undergoing treatment at different hospitals.

It may be mentioned that two JE deaths were reported from Goalpara and one from Bongaigaon on July 21st, 2019.

State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had ordered that all the doctors, ASHA workers and nurses will not get leave till the month of September 2019 and they can’t take casual leave of 15 days during this period.

He also added that cases will be registered against those doctors and nurses who avail leave during this period and leaves will be granted in emergency situations with prior approval of the Deputy Commissioner of the district.

Sarma also announced that financial assistance of Rs One lakh will be provided by the Assam government to the patients who will undergo treatment in private nursing homes.
