Jorhat lynching case: CM Sarma assures action on culprits

Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma assured of strict action against the culprits involved in the lynching of one of its leader Animesh Bhuyan in Jorhat district in broad day light on Monday.

Bhuyan and two others were thrashed by a mob of around 50 at a truck stand in the Jorhat town due to an alleged ‘miscommunication’. Sources said that trio was beaten by the mod after they were suspected to have involved in an accident in the area.

Sarma said, “Those who are involved in the crime will be booked and justice will be served.”

Jorhat police have reportedly detained at least five persons in connection to the incident after a video of the incident went viral on social media. Police were also on a look out for others seen in the video.

AASU general secretary Sankar Jyoti Baruah said, “We are giving a 24 hour deadline to the state police to nab all those involved in killing a youth mercilessly. If police fails, then AASU will take action.”

Two others injured in the attack were currently undergoing medical attention.
