Guwahati, November 20: The anti-corruption bureau has filed charge sheet against three people on Saturday, who were detained in relation with their alleged involvement in the 2003 water supply scam in Jorhat, including the Managing Director of the Assam Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board.
The bureau has filed chargesheet against the Ex- Managing Director of the Board Bipul Sarma, Ex-chief engineer of the board Hemanta Kumar Gogoi and one Pee Bee Builder’s officer in Guwahati.
The charge sheet filed by the vigilance and anti-corruption bureau stated that both Sarma and Gogoi has misused their power and violated rules of law.
The charge sheet further alleged that both Managing Director of the Board and Chief Engineer had committed criminal conspiracy under Section 120-A & B of Indian Penal Code by entering into a contract with Choudhury of Pee Bee Builders for the supply of Pontoons (Tubes) on a price which is much higher than actual market rates. No advertisement inviting tenders for the supply of Pontoons has been published in any newspaper.
Choudhury has supplied Pontoons to Jorhat water supply board at an overpriced rate of Rs 2 lakh for five pontoons whereas it was found that the actual market price of one Pontoon was Rs 22, 000.
A case against the three prime accused had been filed in August 2004 and both Sarma and Gogoi were suspended from their position. Choudhury is absconding since 2004 when the case has been registered against him. Pee Bee Builders said that Choudhury is no more associated with the company.
