GUWAHATI: Assam’s noted elephant expert and wildlife photographer Dinesh Choudhury passed away on Tuesday. Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed his condolence at the demise of Choudhury.
A man of many hats he was an elephant expert, licenced rogue elephant hunter recognized by state government and a honarary wildlife warden.
He worked for Dairy Development Department of Assam for several years before joining Purabi Dairy.
He was known for his expertise in forest conservation and elephants. A number of books and documentaries have been made on his work. He is the central figure in a book by Tarquin Hall, “To The Elephant Graveyard”.
Several of his photographs have been published in the National Geographic magazine. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son and host of grandchildren and relatives.
