Guwahati: The ongoing investigation into the murder of one 53-year-old school teacher at Kalaigaon in Udalguri district has hinted that her husband and the key accused in the case, Upendra Baruah, had allegedly planned the murder and executed it with the help of the others.
At least four persons including Baruah were arrested by state police on Sunday.
LR Bishnoi, additional director general of police, Assam CID, said, “Arrested accused Upendra Baruah, Hirakjyoti, Smt. Joshoda Rabha and Nawazir Hussain are now in 7 days remand. Questioning will reveal more.”
Accused Rabha and Hussain were the domestic helps of the victim.
Earlier, Assam Police CID was roped in to probe the alleged acid attack and murder of the teacher whose body was recovered from a school campus, some 1.5 km away from her residence. She was out on a morning walk on Monday last week and went missing.
Later her husband, Baruah himself filed a missing report with the police and after a search her body was found a day later.
The incident triggered statewide reaction and chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal immediately pressed for a speedy investigation.
Police sources said, “She was possibly gagged, tied and attacked with acid. However, forensic reports are still awaited.”
Assam Police chief Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta had said that no stone would be left unturned to bring the culprits to book.
