    Kamakhya Headless Body Case: Post Mortem Report Says Woman Died Due To Shock & Hemorrhage

    Guwahati: The woman, whose headless body was recovered near Banadurga Temple on June 19, 2019, located near viewpoint at the Nilachal Hills, died because of shock and haemorrhage, as a result of injuries sustained, stated the post mortem report.

    The report further mentioned that the injuries were ante-mortem which says that she died due to beheading. The body was recovered just ahead of the Ambubachi Mela 2019 triggering a sensation across the city.

    The viscera (internal organs the main cavities of the body, especially those in the abdomen) of the woman has been sent to Directorate of Forensic Sciences (DFS) for chemical examination.

    The body was partly decomposed with a swollen abdomen and the approximate time of death is suspected to be somewhat between 36-72 hours, as mentioned in the report. The body of the woman also had “tattoos of six crosses over her chest” and during medical examinations, cash worth Rs 1600 was recovered from her clothes.

    The headless body of the woman was found on the steps leading to the Banadurga temple adjacent to the main Kamakhya temple. Till date, the identity of the woman is yet to be ascertained.

    It may be mentioned, on June 19th, 2019 the beheaded corpse of the woman was recovered covered in a floral blanket. The police also recovered materials including flowers, incense sticks used for worship and an extinguished earthen lamp near the corpse but surprisingly, there were no blood traces near it.

    The incident triggered shock waves across the city as it happened just before Ambubachi Mela, also known as Tantric fertility festival. The Kamakhya temple is also known for its tantric practices often associated with human sacrifices.

    Currently, the investigation is still going on to identify the woman.
