Guwahati: Kaziranga National Park (KNP) has added a new member to its team as its departmental elephant Kunwari gave birth to a male calf on Saturday.
The entire staff has welcomed the new-born wholeheartedly as posting a picture of both mother-son duo in Facebook KNP wrote: “Kunwari gave birth to a male calf today and we are delighted to share the news with all.”
Earlier in the month of July, another of KNP departmental elephant Rukmini gave birth to a male calf.
The KNP- a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1985 and one of the major tourist attractions mainly due to its iconic one-horned rhino population is sandwiched between the river Brahmaputra and Karbi Anglong hills. The KNP has over 300 water bodies including the seasonal beels and they cover nearly 5.6% of the total area.
