Firebrand peasant leader Akhil Gogoi on February 8th, 2019 came down heavily on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government and criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Assam visit.

The peasant leader further shared that they would stage black flag protests across Assam to protest Modi’s Assam visit. “Prime Minister is here in Assam to beg votes for the upcoming election. The prime target of the BJP this year is Northeast (NE) to garner maximum votes. The BJP has assigned Mukul Roy in West Bengal and Himanta Biswa Sarma in the Northeast to look over the polls,” said Gogoi while addressing the media here.

He added, “Modi addresses every political party as a thief. I would like to say that both Mukul Roy and Himanta Biswa Sarma are thieves.”

It may be mentioned that the KMSS along with 70 organizations has been opposing the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

Commenting about the Saradha scam, Gogoi said that all the “stolen” money will be used during the rallies and transportation expenses of the BJP supporters during Modi’s visit.

On the other hand, heavy police bandobast has been made in the city and surrounding areas to ensure a hassle-free visit of Prime Minister Modi to Assam. Police and other departments swung into action to make last minute preparations for the Prime Minister who will be addressing a public meeting and lay foundation stones of several projects.
