    Know the whereabouts of PK Dutta & Diban Deka? Get cash reward of Rs 1 lakh

    GUWAHATI: The investigating team of the Assam police was yet to trace the whereabouts of Prashanta Kumar Dutta, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Retd) and BJP leader Diban Deka, the primary accused of the Assam police job scam till Monday.  

    The duo has been absconding ever since the revelation of the scam.

    Under this given situation, the Assam Police on Monday declared cash award of rupees Rs 1,00,000/ each for information leading to the information and location of PK Dutta and Diban Deka.

    According to the Director-General of Police (DGP), Assam Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, altogether 19 persons were arrested so far in connection with the leakage of question paper of written examination of Sub Inspector (UB) by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Assam, City Crime Branch and Nalbari Police.

    DGP Mahanta said, “On September, 20 at about 07:30 PM, State level Police Recruitment Board (SLPRB), Assam Chairman Pradeep Kumar, lodged a written FIR at CID, Police Station in connection with leakage of question paper for the written examination for recruitment of 597 posts of Sub-Inspectors (UB) in Assam Police. The examination was scheduled from 1200 hrs to 1500 hrs on September 20. The question paper was circulated on Whatsapp before the commencement of the examination.”

    Mahanta highlighted that the investigation has been entrusted to one Deputy Superintendent of Police rank officer assisted by three Inspectors and one Sub Inspector (Programmer). Accordingly, four persons have been arrested so far by CIDs. They are – Hirakjyoti Baruah from West Karbi Anglong, Rupam Deka from Nalbari, Rituraj Bora from Lakhimpur and Joydip Borooah from Chandmari here.

    “On the other hand a SUO-Moto case was registered at Crime Branch Police Station, Guwahati based on reliable information regarding canvassing for job for the written examination for recruitment of SI (UB) of Assam Police which was held on September 20,” the DGP said.

    Hence, the crime Branch arrested 9 accused persons – Pranjal K Sarma, Alakesh Baishya, Pranab Borah, Sanjib Sarma and Bimal Thapa from Guwahati, Dhrubajyoti Das from Barpeta, Ashok Das from Kamrup (M), Jugami Brahma from Udalguri and Kushal Das from Kamrup.

    On the other hand, till Monday, the Nalbari Police arrested Kuldeep Rajbongshi, Mrudul Barman, Partha Pratim Pathak, Dhrubajyoti Barua, Sanjib Barman and Harkan Ali from in and around Nalbari district in connection with the scam.   

    “Sufficient evidences were found against them. Even sample of leaked question paper was found in the cell phones and laptops used. Further investigation is going on to trace out the escaped agents and others,” the DGP added.

    Meanwhile, Asam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday reconstituted the SLPRB, Assam with a view to ensure transparent recruitment to the posts of Sub-Inspector in Assam Police.

    Following the resignation of retired IPS officer Pradeep Kumar from the post of chairman of the Board on Sunday, Chief Minister Sonowal appointed DGP Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta as the new chairman, besides ADGP Harmeet Singh as member secretary and ADGP LR Bishnoi and IGP Hiren Nath as members of the Board.

    Chief Minister Sonowal further directed the Board to complete the written examination within November 20, 2020. The Chief Minister also asked the Board to conduct the examination in the most transparent manner and ensure that no anomaly takes place in the recruitment process.
