A delegation of the Koch Rajbonshi community on Sunday met the Bodoland People’s Front(BPF) president Hagrama Mohilary in Kokrajhar and discussed their views on granting of ST status.
The delegation comprising of All Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union(AKRSU), Koch Rajbongshi Sahitya Sabha, BTAD Koch Rajbongshi Samiloni, Chilarai Sena, Koch Rajbobgshi Mahila Samiti and urged the government to grant ST status to the six communities of the state during the ongoing Parliament session.
It may be mentioned that the Tribal Sangha including the Coordination Committee of Tribal Organisations of Assam (CCTOA) has been protesting against the Centre’s move to grant ST status to the six communities by taking out rallies and demanding early cancellation of the Bill.
While talking about their meet, Hiteswar Barman, ex-president of AKRSU said that Mohilary after their demands have assured for kind cooperation.
“The Koch Rajbongshi including some communities have been demanding ST status since ages now. As the Centre has finally lent their ears this year we are hopeful that the Bill should be tabled during the Parliament session,” Barman added.
Meanwhile, the CCTOA has warned of taking their agitation stronger in the coming days against granting of ST status to the six communities.
