Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal extended greetings on the occasion of Diwali and appealed to the people of the state to opt for an environment-friendly celebration this year.

In a two-minute video, the Chief Minister urged the people to use eco-friendly items to curb the growing levels of pollution. “Diwali is a festival of joy, togetherness and merriment. Hence, while celebrating the festival, we must ensure that the environment is not affected,” Sonowal said.

“We have to co-exist with nature. We will survive only if our environment is pollution-free. Let’s celebrate Diwali like we used to celebrate earlier with earthen diyas and other organic products. We should act towards making Assam a healthy and pollution-free state,” the Chief Minister added.

In addition to that, the Kamrup Metropolitan district administration has set designated locations to buy-sell firecrackers.

Moreover, designated places have been identified for the bursting of crackers in the city. Also, bursting of crackers within a 500-meter radius from the Guwahati Refinery, Noonmati is strictly prohibited. The time period for bursting firecrackers has been set between 8 pm to 10 pm in Guwahati.
